Current Location:
Station 51, 6711 Kimball Drive, Gig Harbor, WA

The Gig Harbor 9/11 Memorial Project will serve to honor the lives and acts of heroism that took place on September 11, 2001 and the days following. Efforts undertaken by Gig Harbor Firefighter Ryan Kress and Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One brought WTC Artifact #H-0028C to our community. Rusted and twisted, each piece of memorial steel is a symbol of a day that changed our nation.

The 60” x 37 “ x 27” steel beam weighs 986 pounds. Given its size, NYC officials believe it came from somewhere above the 50th floor of one of the Towers.

The 9/11 Memorial Committee consists of local staff, career and volunteer firefighters and their families. After much discussion and department-wide survey, Station 51 at 6711 Kimball Drive was selected as the memorial site. The site plan for the 9/11 Memorial Garden is nearing completion.

Until the 9/11 Memorial Garden is ready to provide a permanent home to the beam, the Gig Harbor History Museum graciously agreed to display it through October 2012.

The Foundation is honored to work with the Gig Harbor Firefighter’s Association to help create a 9/11 Memorial Garden that will preserve a piece of American History and pay tribute to the lives lost that fateful day. The 9/11 Memorial Committee is committed to completing 100% of the project through donations.
