In so doing, the Foundation will seek to be a model for its community and for raising financial support for recreation, education, cultural and conservation activities throughout the Greater Peninsula region.

Take a Look at our Sculpture Project

The Maritime Pier 'Big Catch' Sculpture project honors the legacy and memories of all fishermen. Meet the artist behind the sculpture project, the passion, the process and people who will bring it forward to reality.

We work to build, bridge and enrich the greater Gig Harbor Peninsula region by collaboratively advocating for and providing support for recreation, education, cultural and conservation activities, parks and greenspaces essential to sustaining vibrant healthy communities across the peninsula.

We do this in the following ways:

  • We help local parks by providing funding to support park agencies and a diversity of land acquisition, capital improvements, and other park-based projects and programs.

  • We work with public agencies and private individuals to broker various transactions to help meet community needs including land acquisition for parks, trails, open space, conservation, and recreational facilities for use as public parkland or for habitat and/or cultural resource preservation.

  • We work with community partners across Greater Gig Harbor to provide services and raise support for recreation, education, cultural and conservation activities, and

  • We advocate for quality community-based parks, greenspaces, and facilities in our communities.

Gig Harbor Beer Festival The Festival is not only a great way to sample some very finely crafted beers, but it also benefits a local nonprofit organization, the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation. Created in 2006, Greater Gig Harbor Foundation works to enrich the greater Gig Harbor Peninsula region by providing support for recreation, education, cultural and conservation activities, parks and greenspaces. "When first developing the festival, we wanted to find a truly local nonprofit organization that benefits our community directly," continued Fosberg. "We could not have found a better partner in the Greater Gig Harbor Foundation."

Foundation Changes Name and Expands to Meet Broad Community Needs

The PenMet Foundation is pleased to announce the next step in our evolution of serving the greater Gig Harbor community.  Effective January 1, 2011 our official name is The Greater Gig Harbor Foundation.

This change is the first step in the Foundation's evolution toward a more diversified community foundation serving as an ‘umbrella’ to help meet a variety of community needs tethered to the original Foundation’s mission. The Foundation's mission has been broadened to focus on enhancing general well-being and quality of life on the Greater Gig Harbor Peninsula while still maintaining an emphasis on parks and land-based community projects.  By changing our name and mission, we are prepared to collaborate through diverse partnerships in the community to bring people and neighborhoods together. Together, building, bridging and enriching, we will sustain a vibrant, healthy Gig Harbor Peninsula community.

Acquisition of Knight Forest property doubles the size of Harbor Family Park.
